SÁNDOR TAR WRITER RESIDENCY PROGRAM

Sándor Tar is one of Debrecen’s most significant prose writers, whose work has gained international recognition and is deeply connected to the city. The settings and intellectual atmosphere of his stories are shaped by the lived experience of eastern Hungary. His prose, marked by a deep sensitivity to everyday lives, social precision, and a consistent engagement with moral questions, has become a defining part of contemporary Hungarian literature.

In tribute to Sándor Tar’s intellectual legacy, the City of Debrecen is launching the Sándor Tar Writer Residency Program, with the aim of providing creative tranquillity and an inspiring environment for Hungarian and international writers.

As part of the residency program, Debrecen offers a 2–8 week creative stay in the former apartment of the poet Szilárd Borbély.

What the program offers:

• free accommodation for the duration of the residency,
• a weekly stipend of EUR 250 to support creative work.

Application requirements:

Applicants are required to submit the following documents:

• a professional CV,
• a work plan outlining the proposed creative project for the residency period.
